Hankinson West Midlands office are working on behalf of Orbit carrying out external decoration.

Orbit was established in 1967 by two people on a park bench, contemplating how to tackle homelessness. Five decades on, they are one of the largest builders of affordable homes, placing customers and communities at the heart of what they do.

Today, over 100,000 people live in an Orbit home and their aim is to ensure the homes they provide and the places they create are good quality, affordable and safe.

They also play an active part in the neighbourhoods where they work, supporting local economies and social activity within communities.

Working in close partnership with Orbit Social Co Ordinator Clare Sykes, we discovered that Osprey House a scheme local to where we were working was in need of some garden maintenance. Staff and residents were also keen to become more eco- friendly and asked if we could convert an electric water fountain into solar powered.

The benefits from using Solar Power are:

  • It presents clean green source.
  • It does not pollute the air.
  • Widespread use of solar energy slows climate change.
  • Reduces caron footprint.
  • Reduces the dependence on fossil fuel.
  • It has zero energy production costs.
  • Positive impact on the environment.

Customer Care Manager, Gemma Besford arranged for a local supplier to convert the pump and with help from Scheme Manager Vicky Betteridge, they both transformed the surrounding area.

Residents now have a relaxing place to sit and relax.
