Specialist Coatings To Swimming Pool, Sports Hall & Communal Spaces

A range of fantastic facilities are provided for the Borough of Rochdale at the Middleton Arena. The Auditorium is a state of the art facility by architects BDP with performance and entertainment space. There is exhibition space within the glass fronted entrance, a function room and meeting venue. The main 25m swimming pool has spectator seating for 150 people. The 600m² sports hall is multi-functional. The fitness suite and Shokk youth gym provide excellent equipment and interactive youth fitness facilities. Squash courts and dance and exercise studios also form part of this impressive facility.

Hankinson Painting Group National Special Projects Division used a specialist team of directly employed applicators to apply imaginative solutions to satisfy the requirements of a range of environmental conditions, including the swimming pool area, sports hall and communal areas that lived up to the high expectations of the design.

The CS Wallglaze fibreglass reinforced system ‘FG Heavy’ was used in the swimming pool area to enable the drywall construction to tolerate thermal movement between the gymnasium temperature of 12°C and the pool temperature of 32°C. Other CS Wallglaze systems including the Wallshield Orange Peel Textured System were used to good effect in the main pool area, and to kitchen and bar areas where a high volume of foot traffic required a robust and aesthetically pleasing finish.

In the sports hall CS Wallglaze Wallflex WBA was sprayed over an orange peel texture to soften the appearance of fair faced blockwork and to provide excellent abrasion resistance.

Difficult access requirements resulted in the use of mobile elevated work platforms up to a height of 60ft by Hankinson fully trained and certified Operatives.

The project for Barr Construction Ltd was completed on time and to budget, and to the highest level of quality with the CS Group monitoring application throughout. All works were completed in strict accordance with the Group Quality and Environmental Management Systems ISO9001 and ISO14001 respectively.
